Well the snow is gone, at least the piles of it that came early and stayed late! and it’s April; St. Patrick’s day has passed and Easter is on the way. All-righty then! Now, the brown grass will soon be green, the winter winds will give way to the mild zephyrs of Spring carrying the spicy-sweet flavors of early flowers and warming earth . . . .
Hmmm . . . maybe my calendar is off.
I just came in from outdoors, where the sky, and nearly everything under it, is grey and the wind is nipping at your nose like it’s still March (which masqueraded as February this year). The snow has given way to cold rains, so that’s progress, I guess. Still . . .
Fairies and pixies and leprechauns ~ oh, my!
Shirley and the Space Lady had had enough of winter about a month ago when they happened upon a class in fairy gardening at Bennett’s, the local greenhouse. We signed up and showed up at the greenhouse the following Saturday, where the moist warmth and scent of growing things was nearly worth the price of admission in and of themselves, and we both walked away with the cutest of fairy gardens.
And so it began . . . .
No one can make just one ~
In the midst of starting seeds indoors for the summer (which we’re absolutely sure is going to show up at some point), we have also discovered the fun of searching out components (and inspiration!) for miniature gardens in local thrift stores, craft and hobby shops, and even online, to say nothing of exercising our creative muscles by making miniature versions of normal-sized yard decorations for our mostly invisible fairies, pixies, leprechauns, and other fey folk ~ all with visions of the variations of miniature gardens we’ll put outside when Spring finally does arrive.
Summoning Spring . . . by creating it ourselves ~
In the meantime, we’ve created Spring in miniature, inside, sharing it with friends and loved ones, refreshing our eyes and hearts with these little green gardens where, we’re sure, if you look and listen very closely, you may catch a glimpse of tiny birds and butterflies flitting about in the trees, wee animals building nests for spring babies in the grasses, and hear echos of the laughter of little ones playing ~ as a motherly ladybug looks on and smiles.
Come, Spring. We await thee. . . (soon would be good ;-))
Until then, there are these . . . .
